web log - sunday, september 1, 2001 day 49. you see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars, i've been living on the edge so long... oh mama. hannah's been sleeping pretty much from 11pm to 4:30am for the last 3 nights. very, very cool. my wife and i are getting much needed sleep lost during the first month. hannah will be five weeks old tomorrow. she's getting really good at holding her head away from our shoulders for about 5 to 10 seconds. pretty soon... "can i have the car keys?" i've been bumming around a few irc channels for the last few nights, but not my "home" channel for the internet radio channel i frequent. sorry folks. :( i've been finding interesting things to download. most of which my wife wouldn't approve of. anyway, i'll pass the channels on to my buddys soon enough. we went for a couple walks today to get outside, enjoy the sun and get some exercise. our friends came over to take their little boy out for a walk too. it was really nice to have some people along to talk to that are kinda in the same place in life. peace, spudwrench web log - friday, august 31, 2001 day 47. that's the way it has to be 'cause that's the way i like it... wow! hannah slept from 11pm last night to 5am this morning! lots of sleep all around! woohoo!!! but she was pretty cranky for most of the day. we're starting to wonder if my wife's diet is part of the problem. my wife drinks lots of milk; which has been known to give non-formula infants more gas. my wife's gonna stop drinking milk for a few days to see if that helps. i did a minor update to my videos page. most of my non-mpeg videos have been replaced with mpeg versions and a few more videos added. i also did a minor update to my reply from my reviews page. basically, i added the fact (which i mentioned earlier this week) that my home machine can now boot any 1 of 4 different o/s's. neato bandito. v3 still sucks. work was boring... although i did get my office completely rearranged... and cleaned up. speaking of work, i ordered my new laptop yesterday. it's a dell inspiron 8000. 1ghz, 256mb ram, 20gb hd, 32mb video, 8x dvd, 15" uxga & a 3-year on-site warranty. smokin'! even comes with a kenneth cole leather case. gotta love that. no more being hooked to a desk to do my stuff. now if i can just get a good long-range wireless network connection... i'm starting to miss my "on-line" friends. in fact, i was supposed to mail out a video and a couple cds to a certain friend of mine (who's in a bummer situation) in the pacific north-west. if you know who i'm talking about and you happen to talk to him, let him know i haven't forgotten about him and i'll mail the stuff asap. peace, spudwrench web log - thursday, august 30, 2001 day 46. that's the way, uh huh, uh huh, i like it, uh huh, uh huh... hannah is one month old today. yeeaaahhh!!! we made it!!! in fact, she spent here first night in her own crib last night woo hoo!!! this evening i tried to feed her from a bottle (which she does do), change her (been there, done that) and get her to go back down to sleep (hmmm... needs work). i made it through the first two easy... the last one... well... after walking around with her for an hour, crying in my ear most of the time, i gave up. between the crying and my bum shoulder killing me, i was very frustrated when i gave her over to my wife. and she quieted down within moments of getting to mom. talk about frustrating. my wife thought i did great... i wasn't in the mood to hear that after she got her quiet within seconds. what can i say... i'm a twit and a jerk. so sue me. :p work was there... lots of stupid users asking stupid questions and wanting their hands held while they access word or excel. in fact, i'm still going to need to find some stupid font before tomorrow. sigh... the crap i do at this job amazes me sometimes. v3 has been up and down like a pogo stick all day. sometimes my "http://i.am/spudwrench" works and other times i get a 404. whatever. and their server still gives me errors when i try to change my "i.am" to "go.to". pretty sad, considering that it's been like this for almost a week. i guess i can't complain too much since it's a free service. peace, spudwrench web log - wednesday, august 29, 2001 day 45. lay down that boogie and play that funky music 'til you die... well, i'm totally sorry for the major lack of updates. i'll blame it on exactly two things. first, v3 (from whom i am using the "i.am" redirection service) has finally ended that free service. to make things worse, their servers have been on the fritz and i've been unsuccessful (after a couple dozen tries over the last 3 days) to choose another domain prefix (i.e. "go.to"). so unless you have this exact url, you haven't even been able to get here. second, and more significant, i've reinstalled my computer once again. but this time, i've created a "quad-boot" machine. "what in the world is a 'quad-boot' machine?" you ask. basically, i have 4 operating systems loaded onto one hard drive. and i can access each individual o/s through a menu that appears when i turn the machine on. "why?" because i'm a geek and i can. "what o/s's are loaded?" windows 98 second edition, windows 2000 professional, redhat linux 7.1 and beos 5 professional. "and they all work?" yep, every one. "do you need any special hardware?" nope, each o/s comes with drivers for everything i have (except beos, which can't use my soundblaster 128. go figure.) "what are each o/s good for?" windows 98se runs all of my games flawlessly. windows 2000 is more stable and perfect for day to day stuff like e-mail and web browsing. redhat linux is there so i can learn it. and beos is there to play with and just to have a fourth o/s. "but... why?" ... why not. :p hannah's getting bigger and more interactive. she'll be 5 weeks old on monday. i swear that she likes looking at my wife more than me. which is completely understandable. we're gonna start trying to put her to bed in her crib this week sometime. she is so loud at night that neither my wife nor i can get any real sleep. she went down for a nap today in it without a fuss and was totally quiet. fortunately, our bedroom and her nursery doorways are only 12 feet apart. so the need for monitors and such isn't really there. work has been ok but today was totally crazy. i think i was in my office for maybe a 1/2 hour today. normally, i'm in there for 4-6 hours, answering questions on the phone. tomorrow will be much better. finally got my mpman f-10 working in my windows 98se. it's such an "old" model that their web site doesn't even have information about it anymore. basically, it's a portable mp3 player with 32mb of flash storage. the f-20 is close; the only difference is the f-20 accepts smartmedia cards. nothing fancy but it works. i even have a compact disk cassette adapter so i can use it in my cars. very cool. but i had a heck of a time finding drivers for the silly thing. peace, spudwrench
