web log - saturday, september 22, 2001 day 69. prepare yourself, you know it's a must, gotta have a friend named jesus. so you know that when you die, it's gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky hannah's doing good. she's only waking up once a night (for about 45 minutes) between 11pm and 6:00am. the extra sleep has been really good for my wife. she had a doctor's appointment on thursday, 12lbs. 11oz. and 24 inches long. she's in the 100th percentile, meaning that, on average, she's bigger than 100% of the other baby girl's her age. she'll taper off to be more average over the next 6 months, especially after starts teething. my lack of updates can be directly blamed upon the insane week i've had at work. first, like i mentioned before, our isp went out of business so our isdn lines were due to go down. so i had to contact a new isp to make sure that we'd have new connections by monday. then the machine that allows all 40 of my users filtered internet access, e-mail and firewalls our entire network died completely. so i had to completely reconfigure our network (i.e. visit every machine, 40 total, and change all tcp/ip settings) to work with our temporary, replacement router. then the machine that we use to present our powerpoint presentations died. and all the while everyone is calling every 15 minutes asking whe the e-mail was going to be back up. ack!!! i wasn't in the mood to do updates here much. on friday night, i went with some other buddies to see they might be giants in concert at the catalyst, here in santa cruz. the opening band sucked. there's just no polite way to say that... they sucked. then, after a 30 minute change over (from 2 acoustic guitars and an electric bass???), they might be giants finally stepped on stage. it was an awesome show that lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes. they played everything from "don't let's start" and "shoehorn with teeth" to "birdhouse in your soul" and "istanbul (not constantinople)" to "particle man" to "james k. polk" to "mink car" and "i've got a fang" from their newest album, "mink car"... which was released on sept. 11th. ouch. anyway, they were great... fun, entertaining and rockin'. if they come to a place near you, go see them. it'll be fun. ;) we're thinking of heading down to the beachfest santa cruz tomorrow and checking out all the stuff that's happening. it'll be a minor miracle if we do though. hannah is a lot of work to have out and about for more than 4 hours. parking is non-existant and we'd have to get on one of the shuttle buses to get there. maybe we'll figure something out. maybe not. either way, it's great to see an event like this happen around here. i hope they do something like this again. peace, spudwrench web log - tuesday, september 18, 2001 day 65. faded, so faded, like a memory gone, there's no recollection. faded, so faded, like a forgotten dream, further than it seems. hannah's doing good. she's getting really cute, smiling and talking to us. she's only waking up twice (for about 45 minutes) between 11pm and 8:30am. i wish she'd go back to sleeping straight from 11pm to 6am but i guess that will come with time. my wife's getting more and more used to her schedule. i haven't really woken up much in the last couple weeks so i don't notice. i'm not a jerk... i just can't do much so i try to get my sleep so i can help my wife when i get home from work. work is insane right now. my filter/router/e-mail server took a major dump today. and my isdn lines go dead in two days and i still need to sign up with our new isp. plus with the changes made to replace the current server, i have to get around to each and every machine and reconfigure it. ouch. lots to do and i can't do it quick enough. it's all good though... talk about job security. heh heh heh. peace, spudwrench
